KARNATAKA MUNICIPALITIES BILL, 2020 AND KARNATAKA URBAN DEVELOPMENT POLICY, 2018

The National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, (NLSIU) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) to Codify, Consolidate and Reform the Urban Planning and Development Laws in the State of Karnataka. The proposed objective of this collaboration is to develop a Model Bill titled Karnataka Municipalities Bill, 2020, by consolidating several municipal laws in the State of Karnataka. During the process of drafting the Bill, several tasks have been undertaken including the critical evaluation of policies and laws concerning the urban governance, their adequacy and relevance in present day context. Convergence overlaps and areas of potential and real conflicts of the proposed laws of different departments have also been examined as a part of the process of drafting the Model Bill.
